Resurgam 3K Fun Run 2014

November 2014 - The Lisburn Advertiser

The Resurgam Trust were delighted to hold their first ever fun run on Wednesday 27th August 2014. The run started from one of their extremely successful social enterprises Laganview Enterprise Centre. Over 180 participants took part in the 3k run which covered the majority of the Old Warren estate. Adrian Bird the Trust Director said “The Resurgam Trust fun run has proven to be a tremendous success and I am delighted that so many turned up to support the event. The promotion of Health and Wellbeing is a key priority for Resurgam and it was great to see entire families participate and take advantage of the free health checks and advice at the end of the event”

There was a number of prizes up for grabs and the following people won the various categories:-
• 1st Male - Stephen Megarry
• 1st Female - Olga Dominiak
• Over 40 – Robbie Butler
• Under 16 - Nate Burrage
• Parent ‘n’ Pram - Andrew McBride

We would like to thank the following sponsors for their contribution on the night:-
• Lisburn City Council for the medals and 6 Awards for the winners of each category
• SE Trust Health Development who provided 125 pedometers
• Coca Cola HBC Northern Ireland for providing the bottles of water
• Boots Pharmacy for providing health checks to participants as part of our Building Community Pharmacy Partnership Project

We would like to give a special mention and thanks to all the Lisburn SAFE Volunteers who marshalled the event with their usual professionalism and efficiency.
The funds raised which was over a fantastic £1,000 will go towards purchasing new equipment for the members of Laganview Community Gym.

Resurgam’s Healthy Living Manager Gillian Lewis added “"Being active provides a number of benefits to your health and wellbeing including reducing the risk of a number of cancers and heart disease as well as giving you more energy and a general sense of feeling good. As winter approaches it can be more difficult to be motivated to go outside in the wet, cold and dark weather. So try to be a bit more active in your everyday activities like walking kids to school, take the stairs not the lift or you could find out about classes or visit your local gym for indoor activities”

We have already starting planning for next year’s fun run and we look forward to establishing our fun run as an annual event in the Resurgam calendar and look to make it bigger and better year on year.
